2016 FUND-RAISING DINNER-DANCE

Saturday, April 30th, we had The  2016 Togo Independence Ball and the Togo Union Fundraising Dinner and Dance which was a glittering affair in the glittering domed marquee of the Selby Centre.

This Dinner and Dance which took place at the Selby Centre, in Tottenham, in North London, started at 8.30 pm, a bit later than advertised, but very quickly reached its crescendo, after Michael Kudiabor who was the MC for the Evening and Monsieur Davi who was the Chair for the occasion, got the proceedings under way.

The DJ was superb and played some soul stirring music  that penetrated everybody to the core and got everyone dancing with abandon, after Monsieur Davi and Veronica Lassey, the Chair of the Togo Union, opened the floor to great applause from the audience.

The food was succulent and made to flatter all palates. The food was so delicious, it was being praised by everybody and that was Togolese culinary art at its best. Everybody ate to their satisfaction and this appeared to have got everyone in the right mood for the Fundraising event that followed.

When the Fundraising started in earnest, everyone dug deep in their pockets and donated generously to help us improve education in rural Togo. This was a grand evening and a marvellous event that was greatly enjoyed by all the participants and I believe it will be remembered by all at least until next year when we will try to do better still.

The Evening was attended by 180 people this year (150 adults and 30 children). Last year, we had 275 participants (225 adults and 50 children). Next year, we will be aiming for 300 people and working together as a Community, we can achieve those goals for the greater good of our Community and of the children in rural schools in Togo that we are trying to help.

It would appear that the understanding of the full meaning of our  Motto "Unity is Strength" and "Working Together we can lift Mountains" is still eluding some members of our Community and at the "Prayer For Togo", we will request from God, Almighty that He should enlighten all of us so that we can all fully grasp the meaning of our Motto. It is imperative that we should all learn to work together as a Community to allow every individual in our midst as well as the whole Community to progress faster and to flourish. "Together, we stand and divided we fall".

My Congratulations to Veronica Lassey, Charles Kunakey, Isidore Dossouhon and everybody (too numerous to name individually) who helped to organise the 2016 Independence Ball and The Togo Union Fundraising Dinner and Dance which was enjoyed by all the participants and which on the whole was a great success. All the various Togo Associations in the UK were represented. Everybody has done well and must be proud of their contribution and their achievement.
